Community Volunteer

Tammy Siefke has loved volunteering at the Columbiana County pound for twelve years. She loves all dogs and gets very excited and happy when a dog finally gets adopted. She works three days every week. She likes to take the dogs on walks and helps out with bath time if help is needed. Tammy loves coming to the pound and loving on all of the dogs. She has a lot of favorites at the pound because they are all her favorites.

Tammy and the pound managed to raise $5,000 in fundraisers last year! They use the money to buy a couple big playpens to let the dogs burn off all that energy from being in the kennel all day and night. Right now due to the time of year and the economy, things have been pretty slow. They have around 50 dogs at the moment. They don’t have fundraisers every year so they ask people to donate money, blankets, dog food, treats, cleaning supplies, collars, and leashes, ect. All of those items sure help a lot.

When it's time to trap a dog that's wandering the streets, Tammy goes out and puts food and treats in the trap to make the dog go in. Then someone will check the trap every few hours. If a dog came in hurt, they would get the dog to the vet as soon as possible to be evaluated. If a dog hurt a person at the pound, they would seek medical attention for the person very quickly. Then they would evaluate the dog they could never adopt out a dog that maybe hurt another person.

The dog that you see in the picture is a dog that I personally adopted!
