SENIOR FUTURES
Looking to the their futures, we have seniors who will soon be attending college (Youngstown Sate, Kent State, Akron, Mount Union, DePaul, Hocking College, Bethany, Wright State, Lake Erie, Allegheny College, Penn Foster, University of Northeastern Ohio, Ohio State ATI, Rio Grande, Walsh, Thomas More), entering the military (Marines, Navy, Army National Guard), attending technical & trade schools, farming, construction, and other workforce areas, and students who will be starting their own business as entrepreneurs. Congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 2024!

The Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services is offering a shoe voucher program for eligible Columbiana County Residents. They will start accepting applications on 6/1/2024 through 10/31/2024 or once all funding has been exhausted. Vouchers will expire 11/30/2024. Applications are available at the Columbiana County Job and Family Services Government Building located at 7989 Dicker Drive Suite 2 Lisbon, Ohio 44432 or can be requested via email, mail, or fax. This week was Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week at United Local. However, we would like to take a moment to express our gratitude towards our United PTO for all their hard work and dedication. They have organized various events such as Book Fairs, Trunk or Treat, Glow Bingo, Santa Shop, Penny War, Valentine's Party, Frog Hunt, Nerf Night, and an upcoming Carnival for our students throughout this academic year.
In addition, this week, our Staff Members were treated to five days of teacher and staff appreciation. We are extremely grateful to our PTO volunteers for their outstanding contribution to our school community. Here are some photos of some fantastic items provided to staff members. Not pictured is Koine Coffee (offering coffees, teas, smoothies, and more) that was delivered to our staff members.
So on behalf of all our staff members, we would like to say a big Thank You to our PTO volunteers for their unwavering support and commitment.

The High School Art Show will be on Wednesday May 15th in the HS Auditorium foyer area from 6:00-7:00PM. Every one is welcome.
Our United community is also invited to join us in making/ordering food for our FOOD ART CONTEST! (Food art is food that looks like something else.) Make or purchase food art and bring it in the night of the Art Show from 5:45 - 6:20 PM. Must be able to serve a dozen (has separate parts or breaks into 12 servable parts). No entry fee! Bring as many entries that you choose. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category!!! Three categories: 1. Cake 2. Cookies/cupcakes 3. Food. Drinks, serving ware and paper products will be provided. Food Art will be photographed for judging before it is served to art show patrons. Judging will take place at a later date from photographs.





On Wednesday, United FFA hosted a school wide career fair at United Local!
Here are the stats:
-54 business for a career fair
-Over 800 students reached & exposed to 12 career pathways
-1 keynote speech from the director of marketing at Landpro/john Deere Molly Haungs
-6 breakout sessions where high school students participated in social media etiquette, how to dress for success, resume 101, networking, interacting with authority, and financial literacy
-1 compact tractor in the gymnasium
- a school of students better prepared for the furure

Here is a free workshop for professionals and parents/caregivers, focused on youth in grades 5th - 12th and in supporting healthy digital boundaries. To register, scan the QR code provided. These workshops will take place on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Kent State Salem Campus.


The Ohio Department of Children & Youth has a Family Fun Day planned for families with children ages birth to 12 years old. Enjoy a day of bonding on June 15, 2024 from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds.


The 6th graders enjoyed an outside authentic learning experience. They were posed with a statistical question of "How fast is the average 6th grader?" Students participated in collecting data as they raced 100m and then used their times to find means, medians, modes, ranges, and constructed boxplots. Next, students will learn the real-world application of using formulas in Google Sheets to analyze their data. Students also showed their knowledge of science standards by calculating their speed and analyzing how each body system allowed them to run the 100m. Here is a link to the video from todays activity:

Today is National School Nurse Appreciation Day, and we want to express our gratitude for everything you do for our students, parents, and staff! We are UNITED in our appreciation for our school nurses, including Susan Laughlin and Michelle Murphy. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication every day!


Last week, the UHS Medical Career Pathways Class visited the University of Mount Union. The students learned more about UMU's Nursing, PT, and PA programs. Thank you to UMU's faculty for making this a great learning opportunity for UHS students. I would also like to thank Heather Mercer
(ULSD Board Member) and Sue Laughlin (ULSD Nurse) for organizing this trip with for our students. They really enjoyed learning about the medical programs and future career pathways close to home.










Today is National Teacher Appreciation Day, and we want to express our gratitude for everything you do for our students, parents, and other staff members! We are UNITED in our appreciation for all of our teachers, kindergarten through twelfth grade. We would also like to extend a big thank you to our substitute teachers. Thank you for stepping in to help out as needed. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication every day!


The state FFA degree is the highest honor the State FFA association can bestow on its members. You must be an active FFA member, earn & productively invest $2,500 in your SAE and volunteer 25 hours in the community. This year, United Local FFA had 7 members earn the coveted golden emblem signifying their degree. 5 of those members received their degrees on the big stage in Columbus.
