FORMER EXCHANGE STUDENT RE-VISITS UNITED
United had a visit from a special guest from France yesterday. Bruno Jouffroy was a foreign exchange student at United H.S. during the 1995-96 school year. In this photo, our boy’s soccer coach, Curtis Jones, shares a team picture from 1995, when Bruno and Curtis played together on United's soccer team. 1995 was the first year for the soccer program at United and Jones was a freshman at the time. Jouffroy is currently a high school principal back in his home country of France. Keith Martig (United Guidance Counselor in 1995) coordinated the visit for he and his family to tour the school building he attended when he came to the U.S. as an exchange student.

United FFA members doing BIG things! Check out the feature of Sophomore, Jayden Stoffer in the Columbiana County Soil & Water newsletter!
As part of her supervised agriculture experience (SAE), Jayden created “J.S houses”, a woodworking entrepreneurship building blue bird houses. She has partnered with Columbiana Coutny SWCD to sell her houses to local land owners to support blue bird reproduction, thus helping to control native and unnnative insects and plant species. Her emphasis on Wildlife habitat creation and management is an integral part of land management and conservation agriculture! Way to go Jayden!
Her houses may be purchased for $25 through the SWCD office located at: 1834 south Lincoln Ave Salem,OH 44460 or by Contacting Jayden or Mr. Gentry!

Students in Mrs. Cooper's the CCP Biology class completed their Wolbachia project with Mrs. Heather Mercer (Mount Union). Students were able to look at their arthropods' DNA through gel electrophoresis to see if the arthropod was infected with Wolbachia bacteria. Students were very excited to see the results. A great time was had by everyone! A special thank you to Mrs. Heather Mercer for making this project happen. What a wonderful experience for our students!!

BUILDING TRADES STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS!
Congratulation to Logan Casto, Jesse Brenner, Ty Hickok, and Nate Hall! These four United students will receive four of the fifteen $500 scholarships awarded in Northeast Ohio by the Builders of Easter Ohio and Western Pennsylvania (builders association). Scholarship awards were granted to applicants who have demonstrated a strong preparation and a commitment to entering a career in the construction trades. Congratulations also to their Building Trades instructor, Mrs. Zeisler, for preparing and inspiring these students.

Zeke Cannon recently finished an octagon picnic table as part of his Building Trades 1 program completion. Students in this program were given a list of projects to choose from and he chose this challenging table. Once it was time to assemble, he had to move his project to our outside working area for final assembly, often having to work in the rain like a true construction worker! He never complained and did a great job on his table. Way to go Zeke!

A huge thanks goes out to Vern & Missy Snyder, who sponsored a row of books in our book vending machine in memory of their son, Zeb Snyder, a member of the graduating class of 2024.
