BATTAGLINI WINS COLUMBIANA COUNTY VOICE OF DEMOCRACY CONTEST
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sponsors an annual Voice of Democracy essay contest of which some 230,000 students compete across the United States. United Local’s Ben Battaglini entered this year’s contest and took First Place in Columbiana County, for which he received a $500 prize. Ben’s entry went on to claim second place overall in the region. Congratulations to Ben and thank you to Mrs. Burch for guiding him through the application process. United Local FFA Officers and a few Members ‘lived to serve’ this evening, volunteering their time to shop for 3 families in need this holiday season. Members are quoted saying, “I always feel so good after these events & they are fun too!” It’s always great seeing students in the spirit of giving working together to make a strangers Holiday special.


There have been many students absent and sent home from school this week! Consider using this guide to determine when to keep your students home. Please do not medicate any symptoms that could mask serious illness.
Carols and Cocoa concert is tomorrow December 14, 2022 at 7pm. Jazz band and flight show choir will begin performing at 7pm in the high school cafeteria. Adults are $5 while students/ senior citizens are $3. Come enjoy some cookies, hot chocolate, and your favorite Christmas tunes!

RHODES "REPS the U" in HAWAII
Congratulations Rachael Rhodes for being selected to perform in Hawaii's Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade this past Friday.
Cheerleaders who are invited to perform in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade are part of a select group of All-Americans identified at Varsity Spirit summer camps across the country. Only the top 12% of the cheerleaders and dancers from Varsity Spirit camps earn the chance to participate in a performance of this caliber.
Rachael performed with Varsity Spirit All-Americans in an exclusive performance prior to the opening ceremony of the parade, and then as part of the parade before thousands of fans lining the streets of Waikiki Beach on December 9. Congratulations Rachael - Way to Go!

She earned this All American honor this summer at UCA camp.

Students in Ag. I are currently learning about soil science. Today they completed a lab activity where they had to pretend to be soil scientists. Activities included examining soil texture, soil structure, soil color, soil horizons, and landforms.
